Race for the Cure

On Saturday morning, June 12, two friends and I braved the heat to join more than 71,000 people in downtown St. Louis for the world’s largest Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Among those 71,000 were 1,090 teams and more than 4,500 survivors walking, running and wheelchairing the 5k race. We walked for the Siteman Cancer Center & NewsChannel 5 team.

“Sea of People” does not even begin to describe the multitudes, but equally as overwhelming as their numbers was their passion. It’s gratifying to be part of something this big, though gratification certainly wasn’t the reason for the walk. I didn’t walk in memory or in honor of anyone, I walked to support those who did and to share in their prayers for a cure. An experience not soon forgotten.

Thanks to my fellow 5k-er Jenn, for providing the photos. 🙂
