Wee Aprons

Two wee aprons for two wee friends–Jake & Sara’s girls!

Wee Apron Tutorial

Half Apron first, Full Apron following.

Gather up a yard or so of fabric (I used a couple fat quarters), a package of bias tape (two, if you want to trim the pocket in bias tape as I did here), a bit of ric-rac, and thread.

I traced patterns onto paper bags using a wee apron my mom gave me. If you want a pattern, let me know and I shall mail you one. If you don’t have a pattern and want to wing it, best of luck. Proceed to step 1.

Half Apron Instructions

1. Line up your half apron pattern on the folded edge of your fabric. Trace, adding 1-2″ to the length. Cut. Repeat with pocket (but don’t add 1-2″ to length).

2. Fold the top of the pocket down 3/8″ and press. Repeat. Pin on ric-rac and sew straight across. Alternatively, you can skip the folding and pressing, and trim the top edge with bias tape, pin, and sew.

3. Pin the pocket onto the apron and sew a vertical line down the center of the pocket.

4. Pin bias tape onto the bottom half of the apron (about 31″). Begin on the left side, go ’round the pocket, and up the right side. Sew.

5. Cut 46 1/2″ of bias tape. Center the bias tape on the apron (ties should be 17 1/2″ on each side) and pin. Fold the cut ends of the bias tape in 1/2″ and press. Sew the bias tape beginning at the tip of one tie and continuing all the way to the tip of the other tie.

Full Apron Instructions

1. Line up your apron pattern on the folded edge of your fabric. Trace and cut. Repeat with pocket.

4. Pin and sew bias tape onto the very top of the apron (about 6″). Pin bias tape onto the bottom half of the apron (about 31″). Begin on the left side, go ’round the pocket, and up the right side. Sew.

5. Cut 69 inches of bias tape. Measure off 17 1/2″ and pin to left corner of the apron where the ties will begin. Pin the bias tape up the left side of the apron, extend 17″ for the neck loop, then pin down the right side of the apron. Extend 17 1/2″ off the right side for the tie. Fold the cut ends of the bias tape in 1/2″ and press. Sew the bias tape beginning at the tip of one tie and continuing all the way to the tip of the other tie. Whew!
